ADVANCED THEORY AND PRACTICE OF TEACHING
Course Description
Advanced Theory & Practice of Teaching is a graduate-level credit-bearing course designed to empower and engage graduate students across disciplines to effectively teach at the college level. The course is designed to be highly interactive and practical, as it teaches students to apply effective teaching methods informed by the most recent cognitive research on how people learn.
Course goals include:

designing effective college-level courses and class sessions;

effectively using assessment to inform instruction and promote student learning;

establishing productive classroom learning environments;

effectively using active learning techniques;

building a teaching "portfolio" comprised of a compelling teaching philosophy and course-specific teaching tools; and

applying research on cognition to inform teaching practice.
